It came at the time of my work submission via email to the boss. It was a tense moment in which my entire time, thought and effort had been poured out of it. Two days were beyond me until one time in the office my desk phone rang.
"Jack, boss calls you to his room. Please meet him immediately," Rita, his secretary, said.
Bob, the boss, and I were friends outside the office.
"Yes, ma'am. I'm on my way," I said.
I closed my phone and headed to his room quietly. I knocked the door of his room.
"Come in!" he shouted from inside the room.
My heart would come off when he shouted. I went in and sat in front of him.
"Jack, I've received your report. Many things must be revised. Some numbers ain't matching. Fix your report," he said without preamble.
"Okay, sir. I'm gonna correct the report soon," I replied awkwardly though he seemed relaxed.
I really respected him despite our age difference was only one year, and even though I often got together with him.
"But overall I've approved the report. It's just minor mistakes, not too significant. But I hope you fix it. Please finish it quickly before being audited," he said.
"Okay, sir. I'm gonna finish my report this afternoon. Thanks for your approval," I replied calmly because my report was satisfactory to him.
"Well, I'll wait for your report," he said with a smile.
At last my report was approved with some revision, of course. Overall he welcomed the report I made, and finally the bonus would be transferred on Monday next week. I was very proud of the results I had achieved, so I wanted to give a reward to myself. I finally decided to apply for leave through a memo. It had become an office procedure. If we were to apply for leave, we should be using memos office had been provided.
I had proposed the memo for five-day leave, and I sincerely hoped it would be approved. But while the memo had been sent, I became confused where I would go on vacation, remembering the bonus I got was quite big. Hainan, Singapore, Ankara were being my choices for overseas, but I had been to those places. I decided to vacation in America rather than had to go abroad. Many places had I not explore in my own country.
